Beauty From Ashes This song was written as a response to the unexpected death of a dear friend. Almost exactly a year later came September 11, 2001, and the world was shocked by the sight of two magnificent towers reduced to ashes. The words of this song took on a new relevance and meaning that day, as truly only God can bring beauty from the ashes. Isaiah 61:3-- “…to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.” When all is dark, when all is painful You bring me hope, though all hope seems gone When I’m confused, when life falls around me You are my Rock, that shall never be moved You never change You bring beauty from ashes, turn mourning into gladness Restorer God, I trust in Your plan You bring the healing, You remain faithful My eyes are on You; let me never be moved When I’m afraid, when walls close around me You shine Your light, Your Presence is there When I am weak, whenever I stumble Your hand is near, guiding my way You are my Strength You bring beauty from ashes, You turn mourning into gladness Restorer God, I rest in Your hands You bring the healing, only You remain faithful My eyes are on You; let me never be moved Words and music by Elizabeth Graham © Copyright 2000 by Elizabeth Graham |
